realistic optimist

high vibes

are great

but what would

life be

without emotions

flowing through us

like waves

in the sea

for what are the highs

without the lows

how would we know

happiness

without the

sorrows

it’s okay to be vulnerable

& real

let others

know how you feel

grateful or sad

lonely or bliss

positivity is great

but there’s more

on your plate

high vibes

are real

but too much can feel

boring and toxic

Ii’d rather be

a

realistic optimist

The inspiration for this poem came from the concept of toxic positivity and spiritual by-passing

trying to “positive think” our way out of things

trying to always be in “high vibe” or “good vibes only” mode

but that can be exhausting honestly

Although the concept behind these 2 sayings are beautiful (& I do really like the idea behind “good vibes only”…buuut maybe it should be “good vibes mostly”), the ability to feel emotions is what makes us human.

Its a wonderful part of this human experience. Not just the pleasant ones but the not so pleasant ones too.

We can’t always positively think our way out of what’s actually happening.

In fact this will most likely do more harm than good

Although the placebo effect is a thing, and our mindset does play a critical role in our overall well-being, positive thinking won’t override the truth and laws of life and how the human body works.

This is where an optimistic yet realistic mindset comes into play

It’s okay to acknowledge the unpleasant emotions you feel

allow them

breathe them through

feel them without allowing them to consume you

don’t get too high, don’t get too low

create a balance

be vulnerable.

be authentic.

be real.

be U.
