An Overview of Quantum Medicine: Beyond the Physical

It’s common to think of health and healing as being dictated solely by exercise, diet, our genetics and lifestyle alone. While these are important aspects of our overall wellness, we now know that true health and healing depends on more than just our physical state. It’s not just what we eat, how much we move or even our genetics that determine our health destiny. When we take a look on a deeper level, it’s about the harmony and coherence of our whole being. This is where Quantum medicine comes in.

What is Quantum Medicine?

Quantum medicine is a field that fuses science and the metaphysical, applying the principles of quantum physics to enhance health, healing and overall well-being. Quantum physics is the study of matter and energy at the most fundamental level. It delves into the behavior of the tiniest particles in our universe, such as atoms, subatomic particles, and light. These elements are not separate but interconnected in ways that science is still uncovering. According to quantum theory, the universe is not composed of isolated, static objects of matter, but rather, everything is an interconnected dynamic, field of energy manifesting as vibration and measured in frequency.

We can use quantum physics to also view the body in this way — as an interconnected energy system composed of energy, light and consciousness. “Consciousness is not mind; it is the ground of all being, the ground of both matter and mind. Matter and mind are both possibilities of consciousness (Goswami, 2004, p. 29). We can think of Quantum medicine a lot like poetry. Similar to poetry, healing isn’t always linear or logical but rather more abstract and intuitive which creates a beautiful dance with the practical and scientific. This way we can look at medicine in a more multidimensional approach opposed to the linear approach that is within the current model of medicine today.

Lets be real tho, this is the understanding we have of Quantum physics and how it relates to medicine and health as of now and there’s a funny quote that says “If you think you understand Quantum physics, you don’t understand Quantum physics” - Richard Feynman. It’s an extremely strange concept, yet the best tool we have for understanding how the universe works and how we can relate it to medicine and healing. We may just be hitting the tip of the ice burg.

The Biofield: The Energy Body

A key element in quantum medicine is the biofield—the energy field that surrounds and permeates the human body. A more common name for this is the aura, both relating to the subtle energy field of the body. This field is composed of electromagnetic light, and sound energy that vibrates at various frequencies. Each person’s biofield is unique and is constantly interacting with the surrounding environment and quantum field of the universe.

The human body emits low-level light, heat and energy with electrical and magnetic properties and these emissions are part of our human energy field or biofield (Rubik, 2016). These emissions can be measured and influenced by various techniques in quantum healing. Disruptions in the field - whether from stress, illness, emotions, or external energies - can manifests as physical symptoms in the body. On the other hand, when the body is in harmony, the biofield is coherent, balanced, and aligned.

Rubik (2016) states that both the heart and brain contribute to the electrical activity of our biofield. We know this from the ECG, developed in 1887, which measure the hearts electrical activity and the EEG, developed in 1875, which measures electrical activity in various brain regions. The heart makes the greatest contribution to our biofield (pg. 4).

Key Terms:

A few key terms of quantum physics and relating them to Quantum medicine and healing.

Non-locality: Interconnectedness. Influencing outcomes at a distance meaning you don’t have to be in the same room as someone to influence them. An example of this is the power of group prayer and intention. In Lynne McTaggart’s book The Power of Eight, she discovers that when individuals come together in groups of about eight and focus their intention on something collectively, a powerful dynamic of healing and transformation can occur (McTaggart, 2017).

The Uncertainty Principle: Everything exists as wave and particle. The uncertainty principle states that we can’t measure both the speed and position of something at the same time because one may affect the other. Lets relate this to Quantum medicine by looking at an anxious thought. If you obsess over one thought ("I’m so anxious about this date"), it becomes harder to see the big picture (what caused the anxiety or how it’s affecting your energy). Instead of focusing on “fixing” the specific thought we want to instead focus on balancing the entire system (mind, body, and energy field). When the system finds balance:

  • The anxious thought loses its intensity.

  • The energy behind the emotion (like tension or worry) dissolves.

Tangled Hierarchy: The relationship between the “healer” and “healee” (example: coach and client). Believing and having a real yet optimistic outlook can significantly influence the healing process. The coach believing and trusting in the client and vice versa has a profound affect on the outcome of the healing process.

Discontinuity: Quantum Leap, Spontaneous healing. An example is when someone suddenly recovers and heals from the dis-ease or condition they are experiencing. The instantaneous nature of healing. A wave of possibilities.

Coherence: Health arises from coherence in the human organism and energy field. Our body is in a state of coherence when all of our systems and cells are working together in harmony to keep us alive and vital. We can think of our bodies like an instrument - when an instrument is in tune we hear a beautiful and harmonious sound - like when our bodies are in tune we will feel vital and well. One way we can practice coherence is by connecting inwardly into our heart space in order to feel heart felt positive emotions like awe, gratitude, love, compassion, ect. Not so that we don’t ever feel stress, frustration or sadness but to create resilience in the ability to move through different emotions and bring our bodies back to baseline by embodying these emotions. Practices like breath-work, heart-brain coherence, sound therapy, and meditation promote this state of harmony and coherence.

By understanding these quantum concepts, we can actively participate in our healing process, harnessing the power of intention, connection, and energy to promote overall well-being.

Conclusion

Quantum medicine based on Quantum physics offers an expansive way of thinking about our health, healing and well-being. By understanding that our bodies are not just physical matter (we are actually 99.99% space), but also energetic beings, we can begin to tap into the infinite potential for healing and transformation that exists at the quantum level. By embracing the principles of quantum physics and incorporating energy-based practices into our daily routines, we can actively participate in our healing process and enhance our health, vitality, and overall sense of well-being. We can begin to integrate all aspects of the physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual bodies into our whole being. All while harnessing the power of intention and energy to promote wellness and experience a deeper connection to ourselves, nature and the world around us.

in love and wellness,

~Jess
